Why your injuries may be more severe than you realize

Almost everyone has been in a car accident at some point in their life. The majority of these accidents are minor, and most people are not injured at all. They walk away with property damage issues, but nothing else.

On the other side of the spectrum though, roughly 40,000 people pass away from their injuries every year. In between, you have hundreds of thousands of people who are injured and who need medical care.

While it’s natural to think that you would know immediately which category you fall into, it’s not always that easy. You may think that you’re in the first category, with no injuries or minor injuries, when they’re actually quite serious. Putting off medical care can just make things worse, and could even turn some injuries – such as internal injuries or head injuries – into fatal issues.

Why does this happen?

There are a few reasons that this can happen, but one of the primary ones is the role of adrenaline, which is released by the body in an intense situation, such as a car accident. Health experts note that: “The body’s ability to feel pain also decreases as a result of adrenaline, which is why you can continue running from or fighting danger even when injured.”

You can see how this would be a very beneficial development from an evolutionary standpoint. It helps the human body to be able to put off pain so that the person can escape danger. Adrenaline can allow you to do things that you would never do otherwise.

In the modern day, though, this can be dangerous. You don’t need to escape from some sort of primal danger. You just need to go to the hospital. But if your body covers up the pain to give you a better chance at escaping, you may think that you’re fine and put off that medical treatment. This is when things get risky and complications can arise.

Understanding all of your rights and your injuries

You can see why it’s very important to understand all of the injuries that you may have suffered. Even if you didn’t realize how badly you were injured at first, it may come to light later. That’s when you need to know about all of the legal options you have to seek compensation for those injuries.
