What the online shopping surge could mean for accidents

How often do you buy things online? Would you say you have done so far more often lately?

If so, you’re not alone. There has been such a massive online shopping surge in the last few months that Amazon, the largest online retailer and one of the most successful companies in the United States, had to hire 100,000 more workers in a frantic effort to keep up with demand. That’s a type of quick increase like we have never seen before.

There are going to be all sorts of ramifications to a surge like this, but one of them could simply be a rise in commercial vehicle accidents. The more drivers there are on the road, the more chances there are for these drivers to crash. Granted, other traffic is likely down around those commercial vehicles, but you still have a lot of new, inexperienced drivers getting behind the wheel of large delivery vans.

Plus, as the company tries to keep up with everything, it stands to reason that drivers are going to see an increase in work. Will this cause them to rush as they try to get all of the deliveries done on time? Many mistakes happen when workers are rushing, in any industry, but that is especially frightening if that worker has to spend 90% of each shift on the road.

If there is a rise in commercial accidents, people are going to end up in the hospital with serious injuries. That’s when they need to know about all of the options they may have to seek out financial compensation.
