The deaths of three people in a recent crash in Pennsylvania likely gave rise to many unanswered questions. The driver who appears to have caused the deadly auto accident did not survive to explain his actions that led to the deaths of two others. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the collision occurred on Interstate 81 in Susquehanna County.
A police report shows that an emergency call was received at about 11 p.m. on a recent Saturday, reporting an accident on I-81. This call came shortly after another one that reported a wrong-way driver on the same route. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a southbound pickup truck had traveled in the northbound lanes and smashed into a northbound family minivan. Witnesses apparently reported seeing the pickup truck traveling south and coming to a stop in the southbound lane. After making a K-turn, the driver allegedly traveled north in the southbound lane.
The pickup truck driver and two occupants of the minivan died at the accident scene. Six other occupants of the minivan were transported to nearby hospitals. Information obtained from the airbag control reportedly indicated the speed of the pickup immediately prior to impact was about 62 mph, with no brake marks on the road surface. Also, toxicology test results are pending as the investigation continues.
The families of the two minivan passengers who lost their lives in this auto accident may pursue financial relief through the civil judicial system. The same goes for the injured victims. Personal injury and wrongful death claims may be filed against the estate of the deceased pickup truck driver in a Pennsylvania civil court. Upon establishment of negligence, adjudication of all documented claims for financial losses and emotional damages will take place.
