Philadelphia hit-and-run involving Bike

It isn't uncommon to see pedestrians and bicyclists on or near the roadways. Various safety features are put in place in order to reduce dangers and hazards for those riding or walking near traffic. Although signals and crosswalks help reduce risks, bicycle accidents can occur. If a motorist is not paying attention, are speeding or fail to yield to a cyclist, an accident could ensue resulting in serious injuries or even fatalities.

Officers from the Philadelphia Police department recently responded to a hit-and-run collision that involved a bicyclist and an automobile. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. and police have released a surveillance video of the crash. According to the report, the 22-year-old female bike rider was traveling eastbound on Spruce Street. Between 38th street and 39th street, the bicyclist fell off of her bike. While she was attempting to stand up, a car traveling westbound on the road struck the female. The vehicle did not stop after colliding with the biker.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and indicated that the woman suffered a serious head injury and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Officers are still trying to locate the vehicle that struck the woman. Following investigation, the driver could face criminal penalties and civil liabilities. The injured biker could file a personal injury claim. This could result in compensation to cover the costs of medical bills and damages.

A hit-and-run accident can be a difficult event to deal with. Not only could the investigation take a long time, but the victims involved are also often left dealing with serious pain and suffering. Furthermore, they could experience financial hardships. Understanding their rights and options to file for compensation is important, especially if they seek to file for compensation.
