Any vehicle accident has the potential for causing damage and serious injuries. Truck accidents carry even more potential for personal injury and damage to personal property. This does not just apply to semis or large work trucks; even a smaller pickup truck can do extensive damage, especially if the impact occurs at a high rate of speed. Anyone who is affected by such an incident can consider seeking compensation for damages, medical costs or other expenses incurred due to the event.
A 20-year-old man is now facing several possible charges after a routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase that ended in an accident. Police in Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania, reportedly observed the man’s speeding truck on Farmersville Road. When the officers pulled up behind the truck, the driver made an illegal right turn, running a red light. According to reports, when the driver attempted to negotiate another right turn, he struck a vehicle.
The pickup truck driver was taken to a local hospital, where his condition is currently unknown. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized. The runaway driver is facing charges of speeding and fleeing or attempting to elude police.
It is fortunate that the man who was hit by the truck suffered only minor injuries, because the outcome could have been much worse. However, the man still has a right to pursue the truck driver for compensation for the injuries he did sustain. And a successful lawsuit would further send the message that reckless behavior such as fleeing the police is never the right thing to do.
