Three Lehigh Valley residents die in Capital Beltway crash

Three Lehigh Valley residents were killed Friday in a car crash on the Capital Beltway in Virginia. The three, who were related, were all on their way to a funeral for a relative when they were involved in the fatal car accident.

Authorities say the 87-year-old man and 85-year-old woman from Allentown and the 51-year-old woman from Bath were all riding in the 87-year-old man's pickup truck when it became involved in an accident with a tractor-trailer.

The accident was so bad that the portion of the road where it occurred had to be closed for eight hours so authorities could respond and clean it up properly. The three people in the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene; it does not appear that the driver of the tractor-trailer was injured.

When these three set out on their trip, do you think they had any idea that they would be involved in such an accident? Probably not. Most likely, they were talking about the relative whose funeral they were attending, or were catching up with one another. Even though we all "know" that car accidents are far from uncommon, few of us ever feel like one will ever happen to us.

If you are ever hurt in a car accident, or if you ever lose a loved one in a fatal collision, it can be hard to know what to do next. Many people find it worth their while to talk the situation over with an attorney and see if the circumstances present an opportunity for a civil lawsuit. If successful, such lawsuits can go a long way toward untangling the financial complications that often arise from an unexepected accident or death.
