Careless driving can have deadly consequences. Such was the case in a serious car accident outside of Easton, Pennsylvania, that claimed the lives of an elderly woman and her son. Losing loved ones is devastating for a family. When family members die in a car accident due to the carelessness of another driver, the family of the victims may be entitled to compensation for the costs associated with the loss.
A 51-year-old Bath, Pennsylvania, man was charged late last month with careless driving in the Sept. 5 deaths of an 88-year-old Bethlehem woman and her 67-year-old son. The accident occurred in Lower Nazareth Township. Court records indicate that the Bath man’s vehicle crossed the center lines and hit the woman and her son’s vehicle head on.
The son died at the scene, while his mother was transported to St. Luke’s University Hospital-Fountain Hill, where she was pronounced dead. Colonial Regional police cited the Bath man, noting that he drove in a careless manner.
It isn’t known how the family of the victims feels about the careless driving charges. Maybe they feel like he should have been hit with stricter charges that reflects the outcome of his negligent actions.
In the aftermath of a tragic event, it is important for the families of victims to not delay in gaining a full understanding of their legal rights, including exploring options for getting any compensation they may be entitled to. It could be possible to hold the man to further account.
