2 crashes caused by high-speed chase in Glendon

Two crashes were caused by a high-speed chase in Glendon last Thursday night. The chase led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man who was also booked on drug charges. The man, from Forks Township, was driving with a suspended license, close to a quarter-pound of marijuana and a gun.

The defendant was arraigned Friday on charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm without a license, failure to give aid at a crash and six other related offenses.

According to court records, the defendant was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.

A Pennsylvania State Trooper determined the defendant's license was suspended when he was operating a 2007 5-series BMW on Main Street in Glendon. The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the defendant took off through the Easton Children's Home property.

Not long after the chase began the defendant struck a 2013 Smart Car and failed to stop. The defendant reached speeds of 75 MPH during the chase. The defendant traveled a couple of blocks in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a GMC Denali near the Route 22 East on-ramp.

The defendant then decided to exit the vehicle, which had become disabled due to the accident, and fled the scene on foot while carrying a green backpack. The trooper was in hot pursuit on foot, but the defendant failed to obey orders being screamed at him.

The defendant was eventually apprehended by the trooper after being wrestled to the ground, according to the police report. The defendant admitted to officers that he had just purchased a quarter-pound of marijuana. Upon a search of the bag officers found 96 grams of marijuana.

The defendant also admitted to the officers that he had an unloaded handgun that he did not own. Four hollow-point bullets were found along with close to $1,000 in cash.
