Auto accident by 17-year-old driver kills teenager, injures 5

As in other states, fatalities and injuries in car accidents that involve teenage drivers in Pennsylvania are of great concern to many. Unfortunately, many of these accidents occur when a group of teens travel together. One such tragic auto accident recently occurred in Bucks County.

Pennsylvania State Police said the accident involved a single vehicle with six occupants. The ages of five of them ranged between 16 and 20, and one occupant was 24 years old. It was reported that a 20-year-old woman died at the hospital. All the others were transported to different hospitals, and none of them reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to the police report, the group was northbound on Interstate 95 on their way back after attending auditions for American Idol in Philadelphia. Witnesses said the 17-year-old driver was travelling at a high rate of speed when she went onto the right shoulder to pass another car. She apparently lost control and sped across the northbound lanes before rolling over several times and coming to a halt on a grass median. Police said three occupants were ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over.

Despite the fact that the vehicle was occupied by a group of friends and the negligence of one of them appears to have caused the death and injuries, the driver and any separate vehicle owner be held responsible for the monetary losses brought about by the auto accident. The surviving family members of the girl who lost her life are entitled to pursue claims for financial relief to cover end-of-life expenses and other financial losses by filing a wrongful death claim in a Pennsylvania civil court. The injured victims retain the right to file personal injury claims to cover medical costs and other documented financial losses.
