Fatal Pennsylvania car accident caused after car runs red light

Whether it is snowing or not, drivers in Pennsylvania understand that the winter months often mean bad road conditions. Even when there is no snow, ice could be present and could cause some hazards. Drivers should take extra precautions to ensure they can maneuver their vehicle properly, and stop for signs and signals. A driver who is traveling too fast for conditions or is distracted could cause a collision. This could result in serious injuries and even fatalities.

A fatal accident recently occurred in Upper Macungie Township. According to preliminary reports, a two-vehicle collision happened at the intersection of Route 100 and Weilers Road at around 6:50 p.m. Authorities indicated that a vehicle traveling north on Route 100 failed to stop at a red light. This resulted in the vehicle colliding with a car traveling through the intersection.

Emergency crews responded to the crash and assessed those involved in the crash. An 86-year-old rear passenger in the struck vehicle was stuck in the back seat after the car was hit on the driver's side. The elderly man suffered a serious head injury. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment where he later died.

The fatal crash is still under investigation and authorities cited the driver that ran the red light. In addition to facing traffic violations, the driver could face criminal and civil liabilities. The loved ones of the deceased could file a wrongful death claim. This could provide family members with a monetary award that could be used to cover the expenses associated with the accident such as medical bills, funeral costs, damages and pain and suffering.

A fatal accident could be an extremely emotional and detrimental experience for the loved ones of the deceased. Their death could be difficult to cope with and the incident could leave them with bill and huge financial burdens. Filing for compensation could reduce or alleviate these hardships, so it could be in their best interest to seek advice about their options.
